Labels and tags

QR code labels and NFC tags for storage boxes

Label a box once, then scan it or tap it. Every box, place or thing in StowTap can have a QR label, an NFC tag, or both. Scan or tap with your iPhone and that exact box opens, with a list of what’s inside. Printing labels and linking tags are free.

QR labels, on any paper.

Open a box, tap Label, preview, then print or share the PDF. You don’t need a label printer.

  • Plain paper, 12 to a page, letter or A4
  • Avery 22806 square sheets, with “start at label” so a part-used sheet still works
  • Full-sheet stickers you cut apart, a small 1-inch square for drawers, or one big label per page
  • Optional contents line, so the label can carry a packing list

Scanning a label with the Camera or the Scan tab opens the box in the app. The web page behind the QR code never shows what’s inside; it only hands you to the app.

Avery 22806 squares: 12 per sheet. Print them from the app on your own printer.

NFC tags, for a tap.

A blank NFC tag on the lid is the fastest way back into a box. Hold your iPhone near it and the box opens.

  1. Open the box and tap Label, then Write an NFC tag.
  2. Hold your iPhone near a blank tag until it writes.
  3. Tap Test to check it. Replace if you ever swap the tag.

NTAG213, 215 and 216 tags work well. Scanning and tapping both open the same box, so use whichever suits the lid.

Works on any paper. Anyone with a camera can scan it, but only people with StowTap see what’s in the box.

What I use

The two things I buy for this.

StowTap works with any plain paper and any blank NFC tag. These are the two I use myself, if you want a place to start.

Avery 22806 square label sheets

Two-inch squares, 12 to a sheet. StowTap has a layout for them, and a “start at label” setting so a half-used sheet doesn’t go to waste.

Blank NFC tags

Stick one on a box, then write it from the app. StowTap works well with NTAG213, 215 and 216 tags.

Questions people ask

Can I print StowTap labels on Avery 22806 sheets?

Yes. Pick Avery 22806 as your paper when you preview a label. The sheets have 12 square labels, and "start at label" lets you reuse a part-used sheet.

Do I need a label printer to make QR code labels for storage boxes?

No. StowTap makes a PDF you can print on any printer. Plain paper fits 12 labels a page (letter or A4), or you can print on sticker sheets.

Which NFC tags work with StowTap?

Blank NTAG213, NTAG215 and NTAG216 tags work well. Open the box, tap Label, then Write an NFC tag, and hold your iPhone near the tag until it writes. Tap Test to check it.

Should I use a QR label or an NFC tag on a storage box?

Both open the same box, so use whichever suits the lid. A QR label works on any paper and anyone with a camera can scan it. An NFC tag opens the box with one tap but needs a blank tag. You can put both on one box.

What does someone see if they scan my QR label without StowTap?

A page that only hands them to the app. It never shows what is inside the box.

Do labels and NFC tags cost anything?

No. Printing labels and linking tags are free in StowTap. You only pay for the paper or the tags.
